A tense maritime incident reportedly occurred in the Gulf of Oman when the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Thomas Hudner (DDG-116) detected what American defense officials described as one of Iran’s most advanced anti-ship cruise missiles launched in its direction. The warship was operating in support of a nearby carrier strike group when its radar systems picked up the high-speed launch originating from the Iranian coastline.
According to defense sources, the missile initially climbed after launch before dropping rapidly to a sea-skimming altitude, a flight pattern designed to reduce radar detection and increase the chances of penetrating a ship’s defenses.
