Authorities in Delaware have charged Bill Stevenson, the former spouse of Jill Biden, with the murder of his current wife, Linda Stevenson, following an extensive investigation. According to New Castle County Police, Stevenson, 77, was arrested on Monday after a grand jury indicted him on a charge of first-degree murder. He is now being held at the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post bail set at $500,000.
The case began on the night of December 28, when police responded to a call reporting a possible domestic dispute at the couple’s home in the Oak Hill neighborhood. Officers arrived shortly after 11 p.m. and discovered Linda Stevenson lying unresponsive on the living room floor. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Early information from a 911 dispatch suggested the situation may have involved cardiac arrest. However, authorities later transferred Linda Stevenson’s body to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to conduct a full autopsy and determine the exact cause of death. Officials have not yet disclosed what evidence led investigators to pursue a homicide charge.
Reports indicate that Stevenson himself made the 911 call and was present at the home when officers arrived. Law enforcement sources say he has cooperated with investigators during the inquiry. Bill Stevenson was married to Jill Biden from 1970 until their divorce in 1975. She later married Joe Biden in 1977. Stevenson has previously made public remarks about their past relationship, including claims about how their marriage ended. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and additional details may be released as the case develops.
