Comer Accuses Walz Of ‘Enabling Fraud’ As Explosive MN Hearing Explodes

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is preparing to accuse Minnesota Governor Tim Walz of enabling fraud and retaliating against whistleblowers during a major congressional hearing focused on alleged misuse of federal welfare funds in the state. In remarks released ahead of the hearing, Comer is expected to argue that Walz and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison were aware of serious fraud risks in state-run federal programs long before publicly acknowledging them. He will claim that delays in taking action allowed billions of taxpayer dollars to be lost.

Comer also plans to cite testimony from more than 30 whistleblowers, including current state employees and some Democrats, who allege they were ignored, punished, or even monitored after raising concerns. According to his statement, these accounts suggest a pattern of protecting flawed systems rather than addressing fraud. The hearing follows a 53-page committee report asserting that Minnesota officials had early knowledge of fraud risks in programs such as the Child Care Assistance Program, certain Medicaid initiatives, and food aid efforts. The report claims these concerns date back as early as 2019 and 2020.

Federal prosecutors have already charged multiple individuals tied to the nonprofit Feeding Our Future, accusing them of stealing over $240 million from a federal child nutrition program. Investigations have since expanded into other areas, including Medicaid and childcare programs. Republicans argue the situation reflects a systemic failure of leadership rather than isolated wrongdoing. However, Walz and Ellison deny knowingly allowing fraud and accuse Republicans of politicizing the issue. The hearing highlights growing political tensions over accountability and oversight as investigations continue.
