A devastating tragedy has deeply affected the gospel music community following a private plane crash in Wyoming that claimed the lives of several people, including members of the award-winning gospel group The Nelons.
According to early reports, those aboard the aircraft included pilot Larry Haynie and his wife, Melissa; family assistant Melanie Hodges; her daughter, Amber; Amber’s husband, Nathan Kistler; and Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, who were key members of The Nelons. The group had spent decades sharing their faith and message of hope through gospel music.
The family and group were reportedly traveling to Alaska to take part in the Gaither Homecoming Cruise, a major Christian music event that brings together performers and fans from across the country. The Nelons were scheduled to perform during the event, continuing their long-standing ministry through music.
The aircraft, described in early reports as a twin-engine private plane, reportedly encountered mechanical problems before crashing in a remote area of Wyoming. Witnesses described a horrifying scene as the aircraft went down and became engulfed in flames. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the crash site, but tragically, there were no survivors among those aboard.
Autumn Nelon Streetman, the sole surviving immediate family member, was not on the flight. In an emotional statement, she expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming prayers, love, and support from fans, friends, and members of the gospel music community. She described the pain of losing her family as “indescribable.”
