House Speaker Mike Johnson blamed “Bidenomics” for the nation’s current economic challenges, saying that high government spending under President Joe Biden fueled inflation and contributed to rising costs. Speaking in a recent interview on Fox News with co-hosts Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino, Johnson argued that Republican economic policies have successfully reversed many of these trends.
“What the President calls a ‘hoax’ on affordability is really just spin from the Democrats,” Johnson said. “It is Bidenomics—the excessive spending under the current administration—that caused inflation to reach 40-year highs. That’s why prices have been so high, and why Americans are feeling the pinch today.”
Johnson highlighted the impact of Republican-led initiatives since taking control of Congress in January. “We acted immediately to bring down inflation, cut taxes, and grow the economy,” he said. “Now, inflation is trending downward, gas prices are at a five-year low, and economic growth has surpassed five percent. This is something even conservative economists thought was unlikely, yet it demonstrates that our policies work when implemented.” He added that these results reinforce Republican promises to the American people and could influence the upcoming midterm elections in November.
The House Speaker also criticized Democratic calls to defund or abolish ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement), labeling them as irresponsible and dangerous. “Republicans control Congress, and this is no time to play games with national security or public safety,” Johnson said. He emphasized ICE’s role in enforcing federal immigration laws and apprehending dangerous individuals, noting that lax border policies under Biden allowed millions of people into the country, some of whom posed threats to local communities. “ICE is performing a critical duty that protects all Americans,” he added.
Johnson concluded the interview by addressing criticisms from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others regarding the Stop Insider Trading Act. He defended the legislation, which bans members of Congress from trading stocks, as an important measure to restore public trust and prevent abuse. “AOC is mistaken; she hasn’t read the legislation,” Johnson said. “This bill wasn’t drafted by wealthy lawmakers—it was created by rank-and-file members serving their constituents. It’s a critical step to ensure that Congress acts in the public interest and that Americans can have faith in their representatives.”
Throughout the interview, Johnson framed Republican policies as solutions to economic and national security challenges, while portraying Democratic proposals as misguided or harmful. He emphasized that the GOP’s legislative priorities—cutting taxes, reducing inflation, enforcing immigration law, and preventing insider trading—reflect a commitment to protecting American citizens and restoring confidence in government institutions.
