Trump praised the families for their strength and urged Congress to support stricter immigration and law-enforcement policies, including a proposal he called “Dalilah’s Law.”
Many Democrats did not stand or applaud during these moments, which quickly became a focal point for critics. The following day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Fox News that Trump had intentionally forced lawmakers to reveal their priorities. She argued that Democrats’ response showed they were more concerned with defending immigration policies than honoring victims. Tensions had already been high earlier in the evening. Representative Al Green was removed from the chamber after displaying a protest sign, while other Democratic lawmakers shouted objections during parts of the speech. Several members later walked out. The dramatic exchange highlighted the intense national debate surrounding immigration, crime, and political messaging.
