World leaders reacted sharply after former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had conducted what he described as a “very successful attack” on three nuclear facilities in Iran, including the heavily fortified Fordo site.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump framed the strike in sweeping terms, calling it an “HISTORIC MOMENT” for the United States, Israel, and the world, and urged Iran to immediately end the conflict. His statement quickly triggered international concern over the potential for rapid escalation in the region.
Iran responded within hours. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a forceful condemnation, calling the strikes “outrageous” and warning they would have “everlasting consequences.” He argued the attack represented “lawless and criminal behavior” and said Iran would consider all available responses under international law.
Araghchi added that Iran “reserves all options” to defend its sovereignty, interests, and people, invoking the United Nations Charter and the principle of self-defense. His remarks signaled that Tehran may treat the strikes as a direct act of war, raising fears of retaliation.
The Fordo facility—one of Iran’s most sensitive nuclear enrichment sites—is widely considered a hardened underground installation, making it a significant symbolic and strategic target in any confrontation involving Iran’s nuclear program.
