Early buzz around JD Vance is building quickly among Republicans as speculation about the 2028 presidential race begins to surface. Political analyst Chris Cillizza recently cautioned Democrats that underestimating the vice president would be risky. Early polling and grassroots enthusiasm suggest Vance may already hold a strong position within the GOP. An Emerson College survey released last week showed Vance with a 46% favorability rating, placing him ahead of several prominent Republican and Democratic figures. Cillizza highlighted the results on social media, describing them as evidence of Vance’s expanding appeal.
Meanwhile, Harry Enten pointed to early GOP nomination polling that places Vance roughly 40 percentage points ahead of other potential contenders. Enten noted that historical trends may favor the current frontrunner: since 1980, early leaders in party nomination polling have gone on to secure their party’s nomination about 63% of the time. Grassroots support also appears strong. At AmericaFest in Phoenix, attendees participated in a straw poll that produced a landslide victory for Vance. He captured 84.2% of the vote, far ahead of other names mentioned, including Marco Rubio (4.8%), Ron DeSantis (2.9%), and Donald Trump Jr. (1.8%).
During the event, Erika Kirk drew loud applause when she told the audience they would help elect “my husband’s friend JD Vance” in 2028. The comment was widely interpreted as a strong endorsement from a movement with significant influence among young conservative activists. Despite the growing speculation, Vance has avoided discussing a presidential bid. In an appearance on Hannity, he said his focus remains on helping Republicans win the 2026 midterm elections and indicated he would discuss any future plans with Donald Trump before making a decision. With more than three years remaining before the election, much can change. However, early polling, strong grassroots enthusiasm, and historical patterns suggest Vance could enter the 2028 race with significant momentum if he decides to run.
